Respighi, Pizzetti

Oliveira excels in Respighi’s inexplicably neglected Sonata in B minor, with its deliciously sumptuous, expansive textures, and a little-known sonata by Ildebrando Pizzetti, full of exotic chromaticism. Aside from a rather sketchy tone in the frantic arpeggios of Respighi’s finale, he plays with great artistry and freshness, given imaginative support by Robert Koenig. Catherine Nelson
