Sibelius: Suite in E; Adagio in D minor; Fugue for Martin Wegelius; Duo in C; Piano Duo in C

This delightful collection is worth hearing for the debut of young Finnish violinist, Pekka Kuusisto. It seems particularly appropriate that the charming Suite in E, bursting with the young composer’s grand violinistic aspirations, should be given its recording premiere by this tremendously focused, lyrical 19-year-old. Sibelius’s earliest surviving piece, Waterdrops, for violin and cello, makes for a haunting final fragment, a touchstone for his creative legacy. Helen Wallace
