Collection: A Banquet of Voices

Collegium’s initial pressing of this disc was frankly disappointing. Now it has remastered the same material and much of the former ‘muddy’ feel has been improved, allowing works like the Brahms motets at least to be heard clearly. It does reinforce some stylistic doubts: I find too many soprano passages a bit limp, and several pacings generate sustaining and/or internal linear problems. A workmanlike disc, therefore. But the sludgy feel has been ameliorated, and credit is due for several tangible improvements. Roderic Dunnett
