Collection: The English Tradition of Jewish Choral Music

With the obvious exception of Malcolm Singer’s upbeat and exhilarating setting of Psalm 117, none of the pieces on this enterprising disc reveals a particularly original creative talent – the shadows of Mendelssohn and Vaughan Williams hover all too readily over much of the earlier repertoire. Performances, too, are variable, with a rather unsophisticated soprano tone and a surprising lack of energy in places. A release of limited appeal, I suspect. Erik Levi
