What did Finnish students sing in the 17th century? Answer: these little pious songs – though probably not in the meek manner of this recording. The Latin texts are helpfully translated into Finnish, but nothing else, so you might have to guess why ‘Ad perennis’ has a hint of agitation not found in the other items. Anthony Pryer
