Daniel-Lesur/Messiaen

Daniel-Lesur is best known as a co-founder, with Messiaen, of the ‘Jeune France’ group promoting the ‘human’ in music as opposed to Stravinskian neoclassicism. Although he did not develop such an adventurous or personal style as Messiaen, his music retains a warmth and joyfulness, as heard in these choral and organ pieces. The BBC Symphony Chorus gives an incisive account of the unaccompanied Song of Songs, with its strong polyphonic lines and glowing chords. William Humphreys-Jones
