Liszt: The 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies

Authoritative pianism dominates a most enterprising VAI release which gathers together Liszt’s 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies in recordings that span the best part of 70 years. Borovsky, Moiseiwitsch, Nyiregyházi, Hambourg, Cortot, Bolet, Arrau, Cziffra, Richter, Cherkassky, Solomon and others stir the goulash with a degree of zeal that no doubt would be deemed unseemly nowadays, although a talented trio of younger contributors (Valery Bukrinski, Joseph Villa, Janice Weber) offers some cause for optimism.
