Novak, Slavicky

The Novák was recorded right at the beginning of Ancerl’s period as artistic director of the Czech PO, and has all the excitement and freshness that you might expect from a new relationship, though the mono recording is rather congested. By contrast, the sound is on the tubby side for Slavicky’s Moravian Dance Fantasies, with their echoes of Janácek, though the energy of the performances quickly makes that unimportant.
