Bach: Prelude and Fugue in E flat, BWV 552; Prelude and Fugue in C minor, BWV 549; Prelude and Fugue in C minor, BWV 546; Chorale Preludes, BWV 639, 645, 653 & 654; Trio Sonata in C, BWV 529

Any chance of hearing the magnificent Gabler organ in Weingarten is worth seizing. Koopman lends it majesty and elegance, as ever, though the tempo fluctuations in ‘Schmücke dich’ are somewhat unsettling. His jewel-encrusted ornamentation seems like a highly elaborate Baroque altarpiece, and occasionally clutters the simplicity of the line, though is always stylish. The other CD in the set is recorded in the Waalse-Kerk, Amsterdam, and can be heard in a different pairing on a slightly cheaper Regis release (RRC 2042). There is much to admire, even if the details are a question of taste.
