Bach: Toccata in G minor, BWV 915; Toccata in G, BWV 916; Fugue on a theme by Albinoni, BWV 951

For another ongoing cycle, one must forsake the warmth of the Cavaillé-Coll sound for the scrutinising sound of the Marcussen organ of St John’s Church in Odense, Denmark, on which Kevin Bowyer continues his mammoth Bach series. The eight ‘Short’ Preludes and Fugues, which are now thought not to be by Bach, form the focal point of this recital, but it is in other works such as the opening Toccata in G minor and the little Fugue in C minor (BWV 575) that Bowyer’s feeling for fantasy and colour is so idiomatic. Highly recommended.
