Casella: Nine Pieces, Op. 24

There’s plenty of pastiche Bartók, Stravinsky and Ravel here, yet despite Ballerini’s persuasive advocacy, Casella’s own musical personality remains frustratingly elusive. Probably the set of Six Studies composed during the Forties offers the best music; the rest, I’m afraid, is instantly forgettable. Erik Levi
