Crumb: Makrokosmos

The 25-year-old, and much-recorded, two books of Makrokosmos strike me these days as a bunch of embarrassing and gimmicky 'extended techniques' and melodramatic flim-flam. But a lovingly prepared, executed and recorded performance such as Jo Boatright's intermittently succeeded in captivating even this jaded old pair of ears. Keith Potter
