Debussy: Children's Corner; Epigraphes antiques; Boîte à joujoux

François-Joël Thiollier’s second disc of Debussy’s piano music provides, like the first volume, an intelligent programme of both related and contrasting works. Epigraphes antiques, written to accompany sensuous poetry and virtually naked dancers, might seem to be rather inappropriate for inclusion on a disc otherwise dedicated to pieces for children; however, the juxtaposition provides mutual benefits. Thiollier may not be in the premier league of Debussy interpreters, but these performances are far from disappointing. Christopher Dingle
