Dodgson: Piano Sonata No. 2; Piano Sonata No. 4; Piano Sonata No. 5

Wilfrid Mellers, in his booklet note, sees in Dodgson’s piano music an affinity with Copland. There’s the same use of angular melody, spiky harmonies, splashes of sound, tonal ambiguity, ‘blue’ false relations. Attractive without being predictable. Roberts plays it well. Wadham Sutton
