Griffes

Griffes

A prophetic founding-father of American modernism, Griffes died in 1920, leaving an interesting if uneven body of piano music, of which the Sonata is the summit. The playing here is committed if rather strait- laced, and the recording poorish, but the repertoire is well worth investigating. Jeremy Siepmann
