Gwenllian

With a name that sounds like a moth flying past your ear, Lilo Rhydderch belongs to another ancient musical lineage – that of the Welsh triple harp.

Rhydderch is currently acknowledged as the finest player and composer in her tradition, which has been kept alive by Welsh Gypsies since the 17th century. Beautifully recorded, this is delicate, ethereal stuff with the only ‘accompaniment’ being an occasional intake of breath.

It’s her fourth and possibly best album – an instrumental song cycle inspired by the tragic story of Princess Gwenllian, ‘daughter of the last native Prince of Wales’. But you’re free to make up your own story.
