Liszt, Copland, Barber, Chopin

In Liszt’s Sonata, 30-year-old Welshman Evans is precise, even brilliant, but shows neither vision nor warmth. He is similarly reluctant to open his heart and sing in Chopin’s Third Ballade. Evans’s strongest point – clarity – is best suited to Copland’s incisive Variations. Adrian Jack
