Darius Milhaud certainly belongs to the ‘unjustly neglected’ category of composer. Full of Twenties jazz influence, Latin American rhythms, harmonies playing colourfully with polytonality and overall an ascerbically French sense of irony, the music represented here is worth exploring, though ultimately it doesn’t seem outstandingly memorable.
