Weismann: Tanz-fantaisie, Op. 35; Traumspiele, Op. 76; Etudes

The German composer, pianist and conductor Julius Weismann (1879-1950) progressed through Schumannesque Romanticism, Impressionist chromaticism and Back-to-Bach classicism. Mainly miniatures, these selected piano works have an improvisatory feel and are often taxing. No major voice, but the larger-scale Traumspiele inspired by mountain scenery is impressive, and the 2 extracts from his late 24 preludes and fugues suggest the whole Fugenbaum (Fugue-Tree) would be worth hearing.
