This is the third and final episode of Baker’s live recordings for Pacific Jazz: it completes a 10 August 1954 date at the Tiffany Club in Los Angeles begun on Vol. 2 with a set of exemplary improvisation. He probably never played better and with more inspiration. In his later years, critics puzzled at why Charlie Parker rated him so highly – the answer lies in his playing here. SN
