By the time this recording was made, the old maxim ‘It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing’ was beginning to lose ground to newer rhythmic ideas that went from rock to funk to world music and all stations in between. Today the jazz swing-feel is old hat, but when it’s done properly, it does make you feel a little sentimental about its passing. Here the power of positive swinging is positively therapeutic. SN
