Some Times

Ingrid Laubrock is a young German saxophonist who settled in London a few years ago. After attending the jazz course at the Guildhall School of Music, she spent some time in the USA, studying with saxophonist Dave Liebman.

Her debut jazz album, Some Times, shows that she is already a consummate saxophonist with a soaring imagination, and also a gifted composer/arranger. Seven of the nine pieces are her own, covering a very wide range of styles and calling for different configurations of players from the larger group.

From the opening track, ‘Hannah’s Song’, Laubrock stamps her authority on the session with a powerful and soulful unaccompanied soprano saxophone introduction and, after being joined by the piano for the 6/8 theme, a gloriously lyrical solo.

This very creative and beautifully realised disc projects intense and subtle emotions.
