Britain’s criminally underexposed Lee Gibson seems to have a far more useful handle on the process on the highly recommended Songs of Time and Place.

Her voice is consistently rock-solid across her entire range – no stress at the top, no breathless wheezing at the bottom – which allows her to deliver her convincing and imaginative accounts of such songs as ‘Our Love is Here to Stay’ and ‘Lush Life’ with enormous panache, while her take on ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ in the wake of Eva Cassidy’s is, shall we say, timely.
