This disc completes ASV’s excellent four-volume series devoted to the Tudor master, Nicholas Ludford. The Cardinall’s Musick is responsive and finely balanced in both the plainsong and polyphonic sections, and the sensuous shaping of Ludford’s inspirational melismas in the Missa Lapidaverunt Stephanum makes a striking emotional impact.
