Judging by the genre’s current popularity, Klezmer Concertos and Encores with David Krakauer’s charismatic clarinet playing will arouse much interest and enthusiasm. In an imaginative and varied programme, the most striking concerto is Paul Schoenfield’s zany Klezmer Rondos, an extended reworking of a piece that appeared in its original version on an Argo disc some years ago. As for the encores, Osvaldo Gojilov’s Rocketekya, with its eerie use of the electric viola, is marvellously accessible and will set feet tapping.
