Various: Various songs

They should really have called it The Invisible Man. There he is on the cover, wearing white against a whiter background; there he is on the disc, barely audible beneath a synthetic overlay of harp, keyboards, Uilleann pipes and other over-produced effects – just one interpretatively anonymous session player among many, with so little sense of real music-making one wonders if they were even in the same studio.

The CD’s clearly been compiled to offer a little something to everyone: a little classical, a little pop, a little film music, a little folk, even a little Nitin Sawhney to add that ‘ethnic’ touch. It could prove an expensive purchase: you’d really need to install a lift to enjoy its full effect at home. Mark Pappenheim
