Albinoni: Il nascimento dell'Aurora

You know his (or Giazotto’s) Adagio? Here is his Allegro, Andante and Presto, all royally wrapped in a sprightly occasional piece written in 1717 for the birth of the future Empress Maria Theresa. The music is tuneful, colourful and quite well sung, especially by Zimmermann. This recording was made in 1993 at a public performance in Vicenza’s Teatro Olimpico. Fascinating, even if not ‘authentic’. Denis Stevens
