Giordano: Andrea Chénier

The reigning triumvirate of the whole series, the Scotto-Domingo-Milnes axis under Levine, is represented here by one of their greatest achievements, all three handling the big declamatory solos Giordano gives them in his flawed but fascinating Andrea Chénier with aplomb. The final scene in which the poet and his lover face  the guillotine with all guns blazing will have you on the edge of your seat. Surely this is unsurpassable.
