Honegger/Milhaud

Honegger/Milhaud

Honegger’s ‘biblical drama’ Judith (1925) anticipates his later masterpiece, Joan of Arc at the Stake, in its rich mixture of narration, vocal and orchestral music. It is a striking work deserving a wider currency; and Abravanel’s interpretation sounds well in this new transfer, for it has particularly strong solo artists. Milhaud’s La création du monde (1923) was composed after a visit to America and reflects a jazz influence, which is strikingly captured in this performance. Terry Barfoot
