Monteverdi: L'incoronazione di Poppea

This recording of Monteverdi’s last and arguably his finest opera was made by a distinguished cast after their 1988 City of London Festival performances. Bowman’s Ottone is an arresting central performance with his characterful warmth of timbre. The arioso and recitative exchanges between Auger’s keenly felt, sensual Poppea and Jones’s dramatic and intense Nero are excellent. Elise McDougall
