Mozart: find opera

This studio-made recording followed staged performances at last year’s Aix-en-Provence Festival. The main plus is a wonderful sense of theatrical life. Les Arts Florissants provide impeccably fluid but precise playing with delicate textures and mainly swift tempi. Blochwitz as Tamino has a gloriously warm, pliant tone. Mannion’s Pamina is quite a revelation. The three Ladies are the weakest link, but the three Boys are among the best I have ever heard. Elise McDougall
