Ravel: L'enfant et les sortilèges

L’enfant is one of the most entrancing short operas. Ravel’s intriguing vocal lines and colourful, almost exotic orchestration make it a gift for singers to deliver incisive characterisations. At times Davenny Wyner overdoes the gauche, naughty child by hardening her tone slightly, but gives a vivid performance. Auger is pure magic as Fire, Princess and Nightingale and the rest of the soloists, orchestra and chorus are all in top form. Elise McDougall
