Suppé: Die schöne Galathée

Suppé’s spoofish angle on the Pygmalion legend is best known for the glamorous waltz of its overture. It never reappears, but an enjoyable kissing duet makes amends. A spirited performance based on a Koblenz production, impeccably cast, does this pretty bagatelle proud; though the dialogue should have been accommodated too. David Nice
