Telemann: Pimpinone

This recording of Telemann’s comic intermezzo Pimpinone was first issued during the mid-Seventies and is the only one so far to have placed an Italian concerto before each of its three parts, in accordance with the wishes expressed in the composer’s handwritten score. The text presents many opportunities for lively musical characterisation and this is lost neither on Telemann nor the singers. Only the playing of the Ensemble Florilegium Musicum sounds tame.
