Telemann: Der geduldige Socrates

Socrates, required by law to become a bigamist to boost the birth-rate, is sorely tried by his two jealous wives. The excellent 1987 translation is omitted, but the lively recitative is almost self-explanatory, the tuneful arias simply unforgettable. A hilarious reissue. George Pratt
