Weyse: The Sleeping Draught

Although Weyse is best known for his contribution to Danish art song, he wrote a number of singspiel-like operas, of which Sovedrikken (The Sleeping Draught) is the first and best known. It is stronger on charm than dramatic flair but is well worth hearing particularly when it is as persuasively performed as it is here. Robert Layton
