Draeseke: Symphony in G, Op. 12; Piano Concerto in E flat, Op. 36

Although Felix Draeseke remains a mere footnote in 19th-century German music, his position in attempting to bridge the gap between the diametrically opposed approaches of Liszt and Brahms is potentially fascinating. Yet the results in these two persuasively performed works are only intermittently appealing, since his thematic material lacks sufficient memorability to carry one through some quite extended musical arguments.
