Lange-MŸller

Two premiere recordings. The Danish composer Peter Erasmus Lange-Müller belongs to the generation before Nielsen. An accomplished miniaturist, he is best remembered for his songs and music for the theatre. His scoring has attracted criticism but both symphonies are inventive and show an originality of mind that is appealing. The strings are a bit thin but the playing is spirited. Robert Layton
