Milhaud: Symphony No. 5; Symphony No. 6

Most people balk at the sheer prodigality of Milhaud’s output, but for those who are curious enough to investigate a different side to this Twenties Parisian iconoclast, these two neo-classical symphonies offer attractive, if not especially memorable listening. The Basle Radio Symphony Orchestra and their conductor make out the best possible case for the music, but it’s a pity that the production is marred by some clumsy editing. Erik Levi
