Bach: Violin Concerto in A minor, BWV 1041; Violin Concerto in E, BWV 1042; Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV 1043; Violin Sonata in C minor, BWV 1017

With just BWV numbers on the cover, only the discerning will recognise that three of Bach’s best-loved concertos (in A minor, E and D minor – the double) are included. These straightforward, if a bit dull, performances date from 1979, before ‘authentic’ springiness became de rigueur. Jarry and Amoyal may disappoint, but Josef Suk’s 1969 performance of the C minor Violin Sonata is beautifully poised. Annette Morreau
