Bach: Orchestral Suite No. 4 in D, BWV 1069; Violin Concerto in A minor, BWV 1041; Violin Concerto in E, BWV 1042; Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV 1043

This recording of Bach’s violin concertos by David Oistrakh with son and pupil Igor (Double Concerto) dates from the early Sixties. It was highly acclaimed in those days and the solo playing remains among the finest on disc. If the sound shows its age then listeners will be more than compensated by the warmth and delicacy of Oistrakh’s playing. His refined, lightly bowed articulation and tonal sweetness are a constant delight and orchestral support is lively though less polished. Slow movements are beguiling and poetically expressed.
