Bach/Handel/Gluck

Kempff was one of the great pianists of his generation, and this disc is an excellent example of his achievement in the German repertoire. Some purists may object to transcriptions (these are Kempff’s own) and to the use of the piano in music originally written for the harpsichord. But Bach’s keyboard works, in particular, can communicate most effectively on the modern instrument, especially when they are played and recorded as sensitively as this. Terry Barfoot
