Beethoven: Violin Concerto; Romance No. 1; Romance No. 2

Menuhin’s 1966 recording of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with Klemperer has real stature – for some, possibly too much. Klemperer tends to take a very solid approach, which is demanding on the listener, but well worth the effort. Menuhin is relaxed and produces a performance of poise and tenderness. The two Romances, accompanied by the lighter touch of Pritchard, are played affectionately. Nicholas Rast
