Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 1; Rhapsody Op. 79/1; Intermezzo Op. 118/6

The satisfying, sonorous orchestral sound in Brahms’s First Piano Concerto is a credit both to the original recording, and the current transfer. The performance is spacious, the playing excellent and the sound generally well balanced. The result is a remarkably fresh account of this piece. The solo works are also well played, but they sound a bit cool in this brightly lit recording. Nicholas Rast
