Bruckner: Symphony No. 3

The playing is excellent in this previously acclaimed performance of Bruckner’s Third Symphony, in the Nowak version, from Böhm and the VPO. In a performance which is full of fine detail, the first movement is wellproportioned and the chorale-like Adagio contrasts appropriately with the Viennese grace of the Scherzo. The finale is particularly effective, where the bitter-sweet flavour of this music is evocatively expressed. The recording is both clear and well balanced. Nicholas Rast
