Bruckner/Sibelius

Jochum was a Brucknerian who, like Furtwängler, modified tempi within a consistent pulse. He was also one of the first conductors to rethink Bruckner’s music and discard cut versions. Despite some occasional blemishes, notably in the brass section, he gets abundant warm tone and exciting sounds both in the Bruckner (Nowak edition of the 1878/80 version) and the Sibelius tone poem (recorded in 1957), the latter a composer with whom (Karajan excepted) German or Austrian conductors are rarely associated.
