Clementi: Symphony No. 1; Symphony No. 2; Symphony No. 3; Symphony No. 4

The Philharmonia’s pioneering Clementi symphonies under Claudio Scimone reappear just over six months after the same orchestra’s new full-price set with Francesco D’Avalos for ASV. D’Avalos gives the more characterful and exciting readings, and includes two early symphonies and a piano concerto. But the Erato set is unlikely to disappoint and the mid-price is an extra encouragement to investigate these undeservedly neglected works. David Michaels
