Collection: Rampal Plays 18th-Century Flute Concertos

In true Rampal style, these flamboyant concertos are bellowed from the gut with embellishments flowing fast and furious. It’s a fruity display, in which Rampal, playing a modern flute, fully reveals the exuberance which permeates most of this 18th-century repertoire.

In true Rampal style, these flamboyant concertos are bellowed from the gut with embellishments flowing fast and furious. It’s a fruity display, in which Rampal, playing a modern flute, fully reveals the exuberance which permeates most of this 18th-century repertoire. The disc includes two of the best-known flute concertos by Quantz and his pupil and employer Frederick the Great, but by incorporating music by the Frenchmen Naudot and Devienne, plus the Flemish Loeillet, it also serves as a healthy alternative route between the twitterings of Vivaldi’s concertos and the Classical delicacy of Mozart’s.
