Falla, Granados, Albéniz, Villa-Lobos, Mompou, Debussy, Chopin & Schumann

A pianist’s pianist? Perhaps. A connoisseur’s pianist, definitely – but a great one. Her playing of Spanish music was easily on a par with Rubinstein and Larrocha at their best: fabulously stylish, rhythmically buoyant and daring, colouristically kaleidoscopic – people don’t play this way anymore. Too bad. Nor is her Chopin and Schumann to be sniffed at. What big, singing lines, what textural clarity, what a sense of shape, what beauty and delicacy of sound! Tagliaferro (1893-1986) was a class act all the way. Buy!
