Faure: Requiem; Pavane

In this pioneering all-male voices performance, David Willcocks creates beautifully tapered climaxes of vocal and orchestral sound. Robert Chilcott is the nervous but pure treble and John Carol Case’s baritone delivers long resonant phrases; but, if the idea of Fauré tinged with a hint of English reserve does not appeal, then try the other mid-price EMI recording of the Requiem with Barenboim, which has the Pavane (in the vocal arrangement) plus Bach’s Magnificat.
